Artist
Statement
Most of my work is very personal,
inspired by human conditions and feelings such as happiness,
longing, nostalgia, identity and otherness, hopes and wishes,
and explorations of the mind. I am fascinated by the detail,
the singular, as opposed to the broader picture.
My work
is very textual. Exploration happens through making.
While I make, I research and the research changes
the making.
My techniques and choice of material are clearly influenced
by my background in textiles. I feel most comfortable whilst
working with textile materials in the broadest sense, including
metals, plastics, latex and plaster, but also embrace the
challenge to explore new materials and techniques.
Artistically, my practice owes to the works of Louise Bourgeois,
as well as Barbara Hepworth, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Chen
Guangwu, and German Expressionism. |
